Password Protected USB

USB is one of the storage devices which are widely used. It is the most reliable device to transfer data from one computer to another. It can be easily carried in pocket because of its significant weightless size.

Many people carry critical data in USB which can seriously affect his life if the USB is lost or stolen. To protect USB data from illegal access the USB must be password protect.

In this tutorial I will show you how to protect USB through password without using any extra software. I have used BitLocker in this tutorial which is already installed in latest version of Windows. Below is the step by step technique to apply password protection on USB.

Step 1 :

Insert desired USB in computer having latest Windows.

Step 2 :

Right click on desired USB.
Click on Turn on BitLocker in the drop down menu.

Step 3 :

Click on password check box.
Enter new password in the selected boxes.
Proceed by clicking Next button.

Step 4 :

Backup password in the formats provided by BitLocker which will help in password recovery.
Proceed by clicking Next button.

Step 5 :

There are two formats provided by BitLocker for USB protection which are:

• Entire USB protection
• Files protection

Proceed by selecting desired protection format.

Note: The first one is too slow as compared to the second one.

Result :

USB will be protected with password entered by you.
