Format Write Protected USB

USB Write Protection has created serious problems for the people throughout the world. A large number of employees and students have lost quite a handsome data about their assignments, it is not only wastage of money but also the wastage of time that they have spent in compiling their assignments.


To overcome this problem follow the following step by step method:

Step 1 :

Open RUN dialog box.

Step 2 :

Type regedit in it and Press OK or Enter key.
This will open Registry Editor

Step 3 :

In the left panel, click the arrow just to the left of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
A new list will open just below the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Step 4 :

Click the arrow just to the left of SYSTEM
A new list will open just below the SYSTEM

Step 5 :

Click the arrow just to the left of CurrentControlSet
A new list will open just below the CurrentControlSet

Step 6 :

Click the arrow just to the left of Control
A new list will open just below the Control

Step 7 :

Search for a folder named StorageDevicePolicies
If the folder was not found then create it.

Step 8 :

To create the above mentioned folder, Right Click on the Control folder.
Press New  & then Key in the drop down menus consecutively.
A new folder will be created.
Name it, StorageDevicepolicies

Step 9 :

Create a new QWORD Value  in the above mentioned folder.
To create the QWORD Value, Right Click anywhere in the folder.
Press New  & then QWORD Value in the drop down menus consecutively.
A new file will be created.
Name it, Write Protect
Note :  QWORD Value must be 32-bit for 32-bit PC & 64-bit for 64-bit PC

Step 9 :

Close Registry Editor

Step 10 :

Refresh My Computer 5 times.

Step 11 :

Safely remove USB Device

Step 12 :

Reinsert the USB Device

Step 13 :

Format the USB Device using exFAT File System.

Result :

Write Protection has been removed from the USB and formatted successfully.
